Two two-year-old children died after falling into a septic tank in Chandrapur Municipality-10, Nibuwa Tole, Rautahat.
The victims have been identified as Ranje Sah, son of Garima Sah, and Khushbu Sah, daughter of Jagdish Sah. According to DSP Deepak Kumar Rai of the Rautahat District Police Office, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening while the children were playing near their neighbor Hridaya Paswan’s toilet.
"The septic tank was only covered with a plywood sheet," DSP Rai told Nepalkhabar. "While playing, both children fell into the tank and drowned. They died during treatment."
The toddlers were rescued from the septic tank and taken to the government hospital in Chandranigahapur, where they succumbed to their injuries late Tuesday night.
Police have launched a further investigation into the case.
