General Secretary of Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, said on Sunday that the number of active members of Nepali Congress has exceeded 870,000.

According to the details provided by General Secretary Thapa in the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held in Sanepa today, NC has 870,780 active members. Among them, 423,434 members renewed their membership during the 14th General Convention, 447,346 are new members, while 19,592 are active members from the Nepali Public Relations Committee.

Membership cards printed and distributed
NC has reported that 851,780 membership cards have been printed so far. This data is from 74 districts. Except for Bara, Dolpa, and Mustang, where 1,943 cards are pending, 850,846 cards have been distributed, along with 9,618 cards from the Public Relations Committee.

Renewal status
Nepali Congress started sending renewal forms to the districts from April 5, 2023. Accordingly, 870,884 forms have been dispatched so far.

For this, districts were instructed to enter the details into the system with a time-bound deadline. Thapa informed that the districts have started submitting the details, accordingly.

Status of districts
According to the data as of June 26, five districts have submitted renewal entries as per the prescribed format. Similarly, 15 districts are in the process of entering data into the system, 10 districts are in the decision-making process at the district level, 33 districts have collected renewal forms from the wards, and 14 districts are facing issues in the renewal process.

New memberships
A total of 217,901 new active membership forms have been dispatched. This comes around 25% of the number of renewed members.

Although 17 districts have sent ward membership forms, except for Dolakha, no other district has reported the distribution of new active membership cards.

The meeting was informed that all districts have been instructed to focus on renewals for now and not proceed with new distributions.

When making new memberships available, criteria will be set considering population, voter numbers, cluster-wise numbers, and the demand and necessity for membership. The distribution campaign will begin after July 17.

Thapa also informed that arrangements have been made for Public Relations Committee memberships, and the forms and distribution process have been taken forward.
