The Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN) announced the ninth edition of the Power Summit 2025, scheduled for September 17–18, with the theme ‘Mission 28,500 MW: Powering Nepal, Energizing Region’.
The event, organized under the patronage of Nepal’s Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, aims to accelerate hydropower development and regional energy cooperation.
Currently, Nepal’s total installed capacity stands at 3,602 MW, with private producers contributing 2,900 MW. IPPAN highlighted that private sector-led projects totaling 4,200 MW are under construction, while another 4,100 MW await financial closure after securing power purchase agreements.
"The private sector has mobilized over Rs 1,300 billion in hydropower and is ready to invest Rs. 5,000 billion more to achieve Nepal’s 28,500 MW target by 2035," said an IPPAN representative. "This Summit will bring together global experts, investors, and policymakers to ensure sustainable energy growth and regional connectivity."
The government’s Energy Development Roadmap-2081 targets an additional 25,000 MW in the next decade. The Summit will address challenges like infrastructure development, climate resilience, and cross-border energy trade, with participation from 30 countries, including India as the Country Partner.
Over 1,000 attendees, including Nepal’s Prime Minister, international dignitaries, and energy stakeholders, are expected to discuss green energy transition, carbon trading, and policy reforms. Previous summits have played a key role in shaping Nepal’s energy sector since 2006.
IPPAN urged media support to amplify the Summit’s outcomes, emphasizing its role in positioning Nepal as a regional green energy hub.
