Police have arrested two Indian nationals on charges of robbing pilgrims visiting the holy Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu.
The suspects, identified as Ranjit Chaudhary and Shanti Chamar, hail from Gorakhpur, India, and were currently residing in Bhaktapur. They were apprehended by a team deployed from the Gaushala Police Circle, according to Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu.
Law enforcement recovered a significant cache of stolen valuables from the suspects, including gold chains, earrings, bangles, mangalsutras, bracelets, lockets, silver rings, and handbags. In addition to the jewelry, police seized 115,500 Nepali currencies and 80,000 Indian currencies in cash from their possession.
Both individuals are currently in police custody. Spokesperson Bhattarai confirmed that further investigation is underway against them under theft and robbery charges.
