The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has endorsed two High Court Chief Judges, and a senior advocate as the justices of the Supreme Court.
Similarly, the PHC also endorsed a senior advocate as the Judicial Council member.
A PHC meeting held on Monday morning endorsed senior advocate Meghraj Pokharel, High Court Janakpur Chief Judge Shree Kanta Paudel and High Court Deepayal Chief Judge Shanti Singh Thapa as the justices of the Supreme Court.
Similarly, the Committee has also endorsed senior advocate Mahesh Kumar Nepal as the Judicial Council member.
While Pokharel, Paudel and Thapa were recommended by the Judicial Council, Nepal was recommended by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
However, CPN (Maoist Center) lawmakers have expressed dissatisfaction over the endorsement stating that the appointment was not inclusive.
Maoist Center lawmaker and PHC member Jag Prasad Sharma informed that they boycotted the PHC meeting.
"Our disagreement is not with the person," said Sharma, "Our concern is that the appointment is not inclusive as stipulated by the Constitution. We demanded that the appointment be made based on inclusiveness. They did not pay heed to our demand. Hence, we boycotted the meeting."
They take charge of their respecitve offices once they are appointed by the President.
