Kulman Ghising, the former Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), has stated that migrant workers who send remittances after toiling hard in Gulf countries should be respected.

Speaking at an event organized by the Nepali community in Oman, Ghising highlighted that Nepalis working in Middle East countries—Bahrain, Oman, the UAE, and Qatar—send nearly NPR 750 billion annually in remittances, contributing about one-fourth of Nepal’s GDP. He stressed the need to create an environment that respects these workers, stating that true economic prosperity cannot be achieved without valuing their labor.

Ghising pointed out the challenges faced by migrant workers, saying, "Nepalis going abroad for employment often face unnecessary hassles right from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Instead of causing them distress, the state should address their problems and honor them for sustaining the country’s economy." He further urged the government to generate domestic employment opportunities rather than pushing citizens to seek employment abroad.

Ghising also called on everyone to join the recently announced "Ujyalo Nepal Abhiyan" (Bright Nepal Campaign), aimed at instilling hope and confidence in Nepal’s future. He clarified that the campaign is not just about electricity but also about good governance, efficient public services, social justice, and economic prosperity, marking a comprehensive economic revolution within the country.

Currently, Ghising has been interacting with Nepali workers in Gulf countries, including visiting their residential areas to understand their living conditions.

During the event, the Nepali community in Oman honored Ghising for his significant contributions to Nepal’s energy sector, particularly for ending prolonged power cuts in the country.

Key points:
•    Remittance contribution: Nepali workers in Gulf countries send NPR 750 billion annually.
•    Demand for respect: Ghising calls for honoring migrant workers instead of creating obstacles.
•    Ujyalo Nepal Abhiyan: A campaign for economic transformation, good governance, and social justice.
•    Interaction with workers: Ghising visits Nepali laborers in Middle East nations.
•    Honored in Oman: Recognized for his role in ending load-shedding in Nepal.
