Kamala Auji, 28, of Krishnapur Municipality-1, Kanchanpur, had her period. So, despite having a concrete house, she went to sleep in a small, dilapidated hut near her house.

In the meantime, she was bitten by a snake in her bed on Friday midnight.

She was taken to Seti Provincial Hospital for treatment, but she died in the course of treatment on Saturday.

Police Inspector Rajesh Basnet of the Area Police Office, Jhalari said that they were informed that Kamala was bitten by a snake in the same place where she was sleeping around 12:30 am on Friday.

He said, "She died during treatment yesterday (Saturday) night."

Locals told Nepalkhabar that she was bitten by a cobra while she was sleeping in the hut.

Due to superstition, she was forced to live in a hut during her period, despite having her own concrete house.

Kamala's family had migrated from the hilly district of Achham to Nigali in Kanchanpur.

There is a superstition that staying at home during menstruation irks the gods. A Chhaugoth demolition campaign had also been launched to rid of Krishnapur of superstition.
