Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has expressed dissatisfaction over the disciplinary action taken by the party's Central Disciplinary Committee against 18 leaders.
Speaking at an interaction program organized by the party's Professional and Intellectual Department in Kathmandu on Monday, Thapa commented that such decisions would weaken the party.
The Congress Disciplinary Committee, in its meeting held from June 23 to July 1, had decided to recommend the expulsion of the General Secretary of Lumbini, the President of Khotang, and the outgoing President of Kaski, among others, from the party.
Thapa stated that the decision made by the Disciplinary Committee led by Ananda Prasad Dhungana was not appropriate.
The Disciplinary Committee had stated that action was taken against 18 NC leaders on the charge of not cooperating with the party's candidates during all three levels of the 2079 elections.
"Meanwhile, an unpleasant incident has occurred within the party. I urge Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba. My expectation is that broader unity must be built within the party. We are currently under siege from all sides," he said. "At this time, a strict disciplinary action has taken place within the party. This is neither appropriate in terms of timing nor in line with the party's tradition, statute, or regulations. Such actions will further weaken the party."
Thapa mentioned that while those who violate discipline should be punished, the manner of punishment was not correct.
