Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Raj Kumar Gupta, who was accused in the bribery scandal, has resigned.
Mahesh Bartaula, the chief whip of CPN (UML), told Nepalkhabar that Minister Gupta tendered his resignation this morning. "Minister Gupta submitted his resignation this morning," Bartaula said.
Minister Gupta had courted controversies after an audio footage surfaced in which he was allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 5.3 million to retain the then chief of the Kaski Revenue Office, Ramchandra Adhikari, and Rs 2.5 million to appoint Khem Bahadur Pun, a Gandaki Province Assembly member of UML, as the chairperson of the Kaski Land Commission.
There had been demands growing within his own party for him to resign since he was appointed as a minister from UML.
Earlier, a graft complaint had been lodged at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), along with photos of two bags containing the bribe money.
