Monsoon winds continue to be active across Nepal, causing generally cloudy skies and light rainfall in some parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces on Wednesday morning. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), the monsoon trough is currently positioned south of its average location in the eastern region and near its normal position in the western region.
The MFD has forecast generally cloudy conditions across the country for Wednesday afternoon, with light to moderate rain and snow expected in mountainous areas. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated spots of the hilly and Terai) regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim provinces, while strong winds may hit the plains of Lumbini Province. Tonight, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, with increased chances of moderate to heavy downpours in several parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
In Kathmandu Valley, skies remain generally cloudy with a mix of sun and clouds. According to meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane, while brief isolated showers cannot be ruled out earlier, regular rain is highly likely after 3:00 pm. "The weather might clear up slightly in the coming hours, but cloud cover will increase again by late afternoon, bringing light to moderate rainfall," Lamichhane said.
To help the public understand weather warnings, meteorologists classify rainfall intensity based on 24-hour accumulation: light rain is under 10 mm, moderate is 10–50 mm, heavy is 50–100 mm, very heavy is 100–200 mm, and extremely heavy exceeds 200 mm. Additionally, spatial coverage terms indicate the percentage of an area expected to receive rain: "isolated/one-or-two places" means less than 10%, "few places" spans 10–30%, "some places" covers 30–50%, "many places" indicates 50–80%, and "most places" represents over 80% coverage.
