Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that preparations are underway to bring the drivers stranded in Chinese territory due to the Rasuwa flooding back to Nepal via the Tatopani border checkpoint.
Home Minister Lekhak gave this assurance while receiving a memorandum submitted by the Dhading Drivers' Association on Wednesday.
Narayan Panta, the Association's president, informed Home Minister Lekhak that drivers had been stuck in Chinese territory for several days due to the Rasuwa flooding and were unable to return home. As their families were worried, they called for immediate rescue efforts.
According to Home Minister Lekhak, preparations are underway in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to bring them back to Nepal.
Madhu Kumar Shrestha, the Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation of Bagmati Province, was also present during the meeting.
A list of 135 individuals stranded in Chinese territory was handed over to Home Minister Lekhak, according to President Panta.
On July 8, the flash floods caused extensive damage to lives and property in Rasuwa, while containers heading toward China were submerged in Chinese territory. The floods also damaged the Nepal-China Friendship Bridge in Rasuwagadhi, hydropower projects, the Rasuwa Customs Office, and swept away dozens of containers and electric vehicles (EVs) stored in the yard.
