CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has stated that former President Bidya Bhandari's return to active politics has increased polarization within the party.
During a meeting of the UML secretariat held at Chaysal in Lalitpur on Thursday Oli emphasized that such polarization must be stopped and everyone should unite.
"Her entry has increased polarization within the party," Oli said. "We held her in high regard as the head of republican state until she entered politics. She has not only formally announced her return to the party but has also declared her candidacy for the chairmanship. To stop polarization within the party, we must move forward unitedly. Now is the time for institutional decisions."
Following Oli's remarks, debates arose on various issues, and the secretariat meeting was prolonged, as informed by a leader.
After a 10-minute snack break, the meeting resumed. The extended meeting is expected to discuss topics such as whether or not to appoint Bhandari as a representative for the statute convention, among other matters.
Former President Bhandari has already announced her comeback to active politics within UML. She has stated that she has become active in politics to assume the party's chairmanship.
However, UML Chairman Oli has publicly asserted that the leadership cannot be transferred to her.
