Seven former office-bearers of Nepali Congress (NC) have accused party president Sher Bahadur Deuba of failing to hold consultations on critical issues.
The leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh, gathered at Singh's residence in Chaksibari on Monday and concluded that Deuba should discuss pressing matters related to the party and government.
They also decided to meet Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, expressing concerns over the government's inability to advance agendas, including constitutional amendments. "Public grievances against the government are rising, and even ministers representing NC are facing allegations. President Deuba should consult us on these matters," a leader told Nepalkhabar.
Leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula, a participant in the meeting, stated that Deputy PM Singh would raise these issues with PM Oli. "We want the government to work effectively. Today’s discussion focused on contemporary issues and recent party decisions," Sitaula said.
The meeting, attended by senior leaders like Bimalendra Nidhi and Shashanka Koirala, is part of ongoing discussions ahead of the party's 15th General Convention. With Deuba ineligible for re-election as president, speculations are growing over his potential successor. Earlier, 11 leaders had urged Deuba to name his preferred candidate.
"We aren’t discussing toppling the government. We want this alliance to last until the 2084 elections," a leader emphasized, "but the current situation is unsustainable."
