The Nepali peacekeepers who had been deployed to the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) have returned home.
A 27-member team of peacekeepers led by Lieutenant Colonel Himalayan Thapa returned home today.
This is the final squad out of 88 Nepali peacekeepers who had been deployed to serve in the UNAMI.
According to the transition and liquidation plan of the UNAMI, Nepali peacekeepers were supposed to return Nepal by July-end 2025. The UN mission is going to close down by December 31.
Earlier, Nepali peacekeepers had returned home on three commercial flights starting July 8.
