Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is embarking on an official visit to Turkmenistan today.

The delegation led by Prime Minister Oli will leave for Turkmenistan via Dubai transit on a Dubai flight at 11:55 PM, his secretariat said.

Oli met with President Ramchandra Paudel and informed him about his visit to Turkmenistan on Saturday evening itself.

He will participate in Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) to be held in Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan.

The LLD3, which is held every 10 years, had been held in Vienna, Austria on November 3-5 in 2014.

The first conference had been held in Almati, the capital city of Kazakhstan in 2003.

The UN established the LLDC3 to enhance the conditions of Landlocked Developing Countries through partnerships. These nations are currently grappling with food shortages, inadequate infrastructure—including transportation—and limited access to global markets.

There are 32 countries in the LLDC, including 12 from Asia, 15 from Africa and 2 each from Europe and South America.

Asian countries include Nepal, along with Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

The highest number of LLDC are from Africa. They are Botswana, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, the Central African Republic, Chad, and Burkina Faso.

Similarly, there are two countries each from Europe and South America, North Macedonia and the Republic of Moldova (Europe), and Bolivia and Paraguay (South America).

The delegation led by Oli will return home on August 8.
