The US Federal Court of Appeals, ruling in favor of the Trump administration, has granted permission to immediately terminate the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) facility for nearly 7,000 Nepalis.
The administration of US President Donald Trump had made a decision that Nepalis residing in the US would only receive TPS benefits until August 5 of this year and had instructed them to prepare to leave the country. With the court's permission, the US can now proceed with the deportation process for these 7,000 Nepalis whose deadline has expired.
The US Federal Court of Appeals has temporarily suspended the lower court's order to maintain TPS benefits for nearly 60,000 immigrants from Nepal and Central America.
Following the Court of Appeals' order, the TPS benefits for 51,000 Hondurans and 3,000 Nicaraguans are also set to end on September 8.
Prior to this, a US federal court had ordered that the TPS benefits being received by citizens of Nepal and Central American countries should continue until the legal process is completed.
In the order, the judges appointed by Democrats Bill Clinton and Republicans George W. Bush and Donald Trump write, "The district court’s order granting plaintiffs’ motion to postpone, entered July 31, 2025, is stayed pending further order of this court."
