Nepali Congress General Secretary and Member of the House of Representatives Bishwa Prakash Sharma has called upon the government, parliament, political parties, and the entire nation to stand united against the decision of India and China to establish Lipulekh, a part of Nepal's territory, as a trade point between the two countries.
Sharma has suggested to take the following six steps for this purpose:
1. An all-party meeting at the call of the government.
2. Building our unified perspective and shared commitment through the meeting regarding the developed situation.
3. Further clarity within the country and in the international community regarding the updated map (pointed map) unanimously passed by our parliament on June 13, 2020 by amending Schedule 3 of the Constitution.
4. Recalling the previous agreement between India and China regarding Lipulekh on May 15, 2015, and the diplomatic note sent by Nepal regarding it, and sending another diplomatic note regarding the recent agreement.
5. It is necessary to take our both neighbors into confidence based on historical facts; the issue of Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani should be included in the agenda of the Prime Minister's upcoming visit.
6. The Prime Ministers of both countries should go through the report prepared by the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) and address the border issue based on it. The EPG was formed with the agreement of both countries to provide intellectual suggestions on Nepal-India border and relations.
Urging to take these steps, Sharma said, ‘Lipulekh belongs to Nepal. Amidst numerous differing opinions, it is necessary for the entire Nepal to stand united with one vision and one commitment.’
