Ishwari Neupane has resigned from her position as the chairperson of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) of the Federal Parliament.
She submitted her resignation letter to Speaker Devraj Ghimire after Nepali Congress decided to appoint her as the chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives.
“I have resigned as the chairperson of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee. I have registered the letter at the Speaker’s Secretariat,” Neupane told Nepalkhabar. “I will now file my candidacy for the chair of the State Affairs Committee.”
In her resignation letter, she mentioned that she was unable to continue in the position due to special reasons.
The resignation comes after the committee, led by Nepali Congress Deputy General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar, questioned the morality of chairperson Ramhari Khatiwada during an investigation into the tampering of the cooling period provision in the Federal Civil Service Bill. Khatiwada had subsequently resigned.
A meeting of top leaders held today at the residence of President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budhanilkantha had agreed to nominate Neupane for the vacant position.
