The Federal Civil Service Bill has been passed unanimously by the National Assembly.
The Federal Civil Service Bill, received with a message from the House of Representatives, was endorsed unanimously by the National Assembly on Tuesday.
A provision in the Bill aimed at barring retired employees from being appointed to any other government position for at least two years (cooling-off period) had sparked widespread controversies after the cooling-off period provision in the Bill was found tampered when it was passed by the House of Representatives.
A committee was formed in the House of Representatives to investigate the discrepancies that essentially undermined the very essence of the cooling-off period. However, the committee did not explicitly name or hold anyone responsible.
The National Assembly, however, passed the bill with amendments, including addressing the discrepancies related to the cooling-off period provision and other issues that had occurred in the House of Representatives.
Now, the Bill passed by the National Assembly will be sent with a message to the House of Representatives.
Once the House of Representatives passes the Bill, the President will authenticate it. Once it is authenticated by the President, it will come into force as an Act
