Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak is set to resign due to public outrage over the government's severe crackdown on Gen Z protests.

The decision was reached during a Nepali Congress party meeting where Lekhak's use of force, which resulted in significant casualties, was heavily criticized.

"Lekhak will take responsibility for the casualties and tender his resignation," a party office-bearer told Nepalkhabar.

The protests, which took place in Kathmandu and other cities, led to 19 deaths—17 in the Kathmandu Valley and two in Itahari. Additionally, over 250 people were injured. Protesters had also entered the Parliament building in Baneshwor.

Among those killed, eight passed away at the National Trauma Center. Five have been identified as 19-year-old Shiyaram Chaulagain, 21-year-old Sulav Raj Shrestha, 42-year-old Budhhi Tamang, and two individuals named Gaurav Joshi and Stop Adhikari. Two others who died at Kathmandu Medical College were identified as Saurav Kishor Shrestha and Subash Pokharel.

The remaining victims have yet to be identified. The injured are receiving treatment at several hospitals across the Kathmandu Valley.
