Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) of the Nepali Army Ashok Raj Sigdel is going to address the nation in a while.

Nepali Army Chief Sigdel is set to address the citizens amid escalating Gen Z protests.

Earlier, a joint statement was issued by Chief Secretary of the Government Eknarayan Aryal, CoAS Sigdel, Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadee, Inspector General of Armed Police Force Raju Aryal, Inspector General of Nepal Police Chandra Kuber Khapung, and Chief of the National Investigation Department, Hut Raj Thapa, urging Gen Z protesters to exercise restraint.

Meanwhile, the Army Chief issued a separate statement asking the protestors not to damage the public property. Following this request, the Chief of Army Staff announced that he would make an address to the nation shortly.

During Monday's Gen Z protests, several youths were killed and hundreds were injured after the government used an excessive force to suppress the Gen Z protests.

Subsequently, on Tuesday, the residences of ministers and leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) were targeted and vandalized.

Protesters set fire to key administrative buildings including Singha Durbar, the Parliament Building, the Supreme Court, the President's Residence (Sheetal Niwas), among others.

Some corporate buildings were also set ablaze. In response, President Ram Chandra Paudel has called for restraint and invited the Gen Z for talks. Additionally, Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah, Dr. Sanduk Ruit, Kulman Ghising, Mahabir Pun, and others have urged the protesters to exercise restraint and avoid damaging public property.

As the situation turned abnormal, some ministers resigned this morning, and in the afternoon, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also resigned from his post. The address by the Chief of Army Staff is considered significant as the leadership crisis deepens and protests intensify.
