Rajesh Babu Shrestha, an entrepreneur and director of Manakamana Cable car, has put forward a 12-point governance reform proposal aimed at bringing overhaul in the state system.

The suggestions include retaining but improving the democratic framework and enacting significant constitutional amendments for greater transparency. Key proposals feature the abolition of provincial governments to empower local municipalities and the direct public election of the Prime Minister, who would be limited to two terms.

Other points advocate for mandatory educational qualifications for MPs, strictly merit-based appointments, and depoliticizing student and professional unions. The agenda also demands a zero-tolerance approach to corruption with severe penalties, alongside legal rights to public information and the ability to recall underperforming representatives.

Shrestha's comprehensive plan emphasizes establishing modern administrative procedures and stronger institutional checks and balances for effective governance.
