United States of America (USA) has expressed readiness to assist in the general elections following the appointment of Sushila Karki as the Prime Minister of the interim government of Nepal.
Issuing a press note on Sunday, the US Embassy in Kathmandu said, "We look forward to working with the interim government in the months ahead as they prepare for new elections."
Without congratulating the newly appointed Prime Minister, Karki, the Embassy welcomed the restoration of calm and a peaceful resolution in Nepal and commended President Ramchandra Paudel and youth leaders for their commitment to a democratic solution.
"We commend President Ramchandra Paudel and youth leaders for their commitment to a democratic solution, even as we continue to mourn with Nepal over its losses," reads the press note, "We recognize the Nepali Army and Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel for their vital role in restoring order and facilitating a peaceful transition of civilian government."
Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was appointed as the Prime Minister of the interim government of Nepal on Friday following the Gen Z uprising that toppled the Oli-led government. On the recommendation of Prime Minister Karki, the President Ramchandra Paudel dissolved the Federal Parliament and decided to hold the general elections on March 5, 2026.
