Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, has paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Nepal, Sushila Karki, at the latter's office in Singha Durbar on Tuesday.
During the meeting held a while ago, Indian Ambassador Srivastav conveyed the congratulatory message from the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to Ms Karki on her appointment as the Prime Minister of Nepal.
Taking to X following Ambassador Srivastav's courtesy call, the Foreign Ministry said, " Ambassador Srivastava conveyed the congratulatory message from Hon. Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi to the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister on her appointment as the Prime Minister of Nepal."
The Indian Ambassador also mentioned that India is committed to work together for further strengthening the close bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two neighboring countries, according to the Foreign Ministry.
The Indian Ambassador's courtesy call has also created a favorable environment for the virtual talks between the two prime ministers. According to a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, Prime Minister Karki is holding a video conferencing with her Indianan counterpart on Thursday. However, the exact time for the video conferencing is yet to be fixed.
This is going to be the first virtual meeting between Prime Minister Karki and Indian Prime Minister Modi. According to the foreign affairs experts, the prompt initiative taken by the Modi administration indicates that the interim government led by Karki will get support from India, unlike the previous Oli-led government. The Ministry of External Affairs of India had congratulated Ms Karki immediately after her appointment as the Prime Minister of Nepal.
Former Prime Minister KP Shrma Oli did not have a good term with Indian counterpart Modi.
