Bagmati Province Assembly Speaker Bhuwan Kumar Pathak has resigned from his post.

Pathak handed over his resignation letter to Deputy Speaker in line with the Constitution and the Province Assembly Regulations, 2074 BS.

Even though, Pathak had announced his resignation via social media platform on September 9, he had not officially tendered his resignation.

The copies of his resignation have been sent to Province Chief, the Chief Minister and the Province Assembly Secretariat.

With this, the post of the Speaker of the Bagmati Province Assembly lay vacant and the process of the election of the speaker will be taken forward.

Pathak tendered his resignation after the nationalist youths lost their lives during the Gen Z movement, according to the resignation.

"I resigned from my post concluding that it is not good to stay in the position against the spirit of the youths," writes Pathak in the resignation letter.

He had received 62 votes in the elections conducted to elect speaker of the Province Assembly on January 12, 2023.
