Indian authorities have advised their citizens to exercise caution when traveling to Nepal, despite the situation having improved since the Gen Z movement. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu issued an advisory stating that road transport and flights are operating normally.

The advisory, released by the Indian Embassy in Nepal, said, "The situation in Nepal has improved considerably over the past week. Road transport and flights are operating regularly."

However, it still advises Indian citizens to be careful and follow the guidance issued by the embassy or local authorities.

"Indian nationals traveling to Nepal, however, are advised to exercise due caution and adhere to advisories/updates that may be issued by Embassy of India in Kathmandu and local authorities of Nepal," reads the press note issued by the Indian Embassy.

The embassy has also provided helpline numbers and an email address for assistance.

Any Indian national seeking assistance in Nepal can contact 977-9808602881 (WhatsApp), or 977-9851316807 (emergency number).

The Oli government decided to ban 26 social media platforms, including Facebook, X, and YouTube, for not registering with the Ministry of Communications. Four days later, on September 8, the Gen Z movement (young people under 28) launched protests in major cities, including Kathmandu, against corruption, mismanagement and irregularities. The government's violent crackdown resulted in the deaths of 19 youths that day.

Following the killings, the Gen Z movement intensified on September 9. Protesters engaged in vandalism and arson, targeting government buildings such as the Parliament, Supreme Court, and Singha Durbar, as well as the homes of politicians.

During the violence, protesters barged into the house of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and assaulted him and his wife, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba. This incident led to Oli's resignation, after which he fled to Nepali Army barrack, Shivapuri by military helicopter.

Oli, who had been under military protection since September 9, returned to his rented home in Bhaktapur on September 19. Following the ouster of Oli's government, an interim government has been formed under the leadership of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. President Ram Chandra Paudel has dissolved the parliament and scheduled new elections for March 5, 2026.
