Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, has said that contracts for projects that have been inactive and of those projects in a dilapidated state for a long time should not be retained.

During a meeting with representatives of the Federation of Contractors' Associations of Nepal (FCAN) today, he clarified that contracts with contractors who leave projects idle for years without any work will be terminated.

He also mentioned that he would not terminate contracts with any construction entrepreneur out of bias, but would terminate the contracts of development projects that have become sick due to negligence or various reasons.

"There is an increasing trend of taking projects by agreeing to amounts lower than the estimated cost without actually doing the work; there will be no work unless there is no fear, confiscation of bank guarantees, or penalties when someone takes a contract by agreeing to a lower amount," Ghising said.

He further shared that the mandate of the latest political change in the country is to work quickly without any delay; therefore, delay in construction and contracts could not be tolerated.
