The Department of Money Laundering Investigation has started an investigation into the alleged burnt cashes in the houses of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and former Energy Minister Deepak Khadka.
The social media platforms had claimed to have found a huge amount of cash and aired the partly burnt cashes accordingly during the arson carried by protestors during the Gen Z movement on September 9.
Similarly, some of cashes were seen being blown up into the air by a mob of protestors on social media platforms.
A forensic team has collected samples of burnt currencies from the incident sites for investigation to determine whether the leaders had really stashed away the claimed cashes.
Issuing a press note, the Deuba's secretariat claimed that Deuba had not hidden any currencies, dismissing the social media reports.
On September 9, a large number of protestors barged into the houses of Nepali Congress President Deuba and Energy Minister Khadka and set their houses on fire. The mob also assaulted President Deuba and his wife Dr Arzu Rana Deuba before being rescued by the security personnel.
