American Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R Thompson, has paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister Rameshwar Prasad Khanal at the latter's office in Singha Durbar on Monday.
Finance Minister Khanal and American Ambassador Thompson discussed the latest political developments in Nepal and the American cooperation to Nepal at this critical period.
During the meeting, Finance Minister Khanal said the main objective of the interim government of Nepal is to hold the elections on the scheduled date, to rebuild those buildings destroyed in the Gen Z protests and boost the morale of the private sectors through the subsidized loan package.
Extending condolences to the families of those killed during the Gen Z protest, Ambassador Thompson said America would always stand with Nepal at this time of challenging circumstances.
Similarly, Thompson inquired about the current status of MCC project underway in Nepal and sought the Nepal government's additional commitment to timely execute the project.
In response, Finance Minister Khanal assured American Ambassador the government will no stone unturned to ensure the timely completion of the project. Appreciating the continued support of America to Nepal in its social, economic and cultural developments, Khanal expressed hope that such an assistance and cooperation would continue in the days ahead, too.
Finance Secretary Ghana Shyam Upadhyaya, Dhaniram Sharma, Joint Secretary at International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division under the Ministry of Finance, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the American Embassy in Kathmandu were present in the bilateral meeting
