A signature campaign has been launched by members of Nepali Congress, demanding a special convention. This move comes after the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9, with over 100 convention representatives from the Gagan Thapa and Dr. Shekhar Koirala factions signing a petition.
In their signed petiton, the representatives stated that the party's policies and decisions are responsible for the current situation and the public's demand for accountability. They claim that serious, unavoidable questions have been raised about the party's leadership and that their repeated critical suggestions have been ignored. They also lamented the marginalization and discrimination faced by those who question the leadership's working style.

The signatories believe that only a special convention can provide the platform needed to apologize for past mistakes, resolve issues with the leadership, and set a better path forward for the party. Citing Article 17(2) of the party's statute, they have urged all Nepali Congress members to join the campaign. The statute allows a special convention to be called if demanded by 40% of the party's 4,743 convention representatives.
Leaders from the Shekhar Koirala faction, including Gururaj Ghimire and Devaraj Chalise, Rudra Kangangwa have signed the petition. In contrast, party President Deuba and his allies are reportedly preparing to extend his term by one year, making it unlikely that the 15th General Convention will be held this November as scheduled.
