Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song paid a courtesy call on Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising on Wednesday.
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport in Singha Durbar, where Ambassador Song congratulated the newly appointed Minister Ghising and wished him a successful tenure.
During the meeting, they discussed Nepal-China road and power transmission line connectivity, the progress of road and electricity projects contracted by Chinese construction companies, cooperation in the energy sector, the status of projects operating with Chinese assistance, and Chinese investment, among other topics.
Minister Ghising requested China's assistance in using Chinese technology to permanently maintain the Kathmandu-Kodari and Syaphrubesi-Rasuwagadhi roads, which are important but prone to landslides and are geographically unstable.
He also called for the immediate start of work on the Kalanki-Basundhara section of the Kathmandu Valley Ring Road expansion, which is being built with a Chinese grant. Additionally, he requested China to move forward with the construction of another cross-border transmission line from Kimathanka to make Nepal's electricity market more competitive, as many hydropower projects are under construction in the Arun River corridor.
He requested cooperation and facilitation to speed up the construction of the Kamala-Kanchanpur project, the Narayangadh-Butwal and Muglin-Pokhara road expansion projects, which are contracted to Chinese companies.
In response, Ambassador Chen stated that China is always ready to cooperate in Nepal's priority sectors.
