Nepali Congress leaders loyal to President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Sudurpaschim Province have voiced against the special convention.
Issuing a press note on Wednesday, they stated that the demand of special convention in this politically crucial period will not only weaken the party but also put the democracy at peril.
"The ongoing signature campaign and call for special convention in this politically crucial period will not only weaken the party but also put the democracy at peril," the leaders in the press note said, urging all the party rank and file to exercise maximum caution and awareness at this politically venerable period.
Some central committee members, Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, National Assembly members, Acting President of NC Province Committee among others in the press statement underlined the need to forge unity in the party.
Earlier on September 22, 109 NC leaders from Shekhar Koiral and Gagan Thapa groups and including some leaders close to Deuba launched a signature campaign demanding a special convention in view of the changed context following the Gen Z movement.
Meanwhile, leaders loyal to Deuba have asserted that this is not the appropriated time for the leadership change in the party, calling for a unity.
