Dr Baburam Bhattarai quits as NSP chair in view of changed political context

Nepal Samajbadi Party (Naya Shakti) Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai has announced to relinquish his post.

Dr Bhattarai made this announcement at a central committee meeting convened in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

According to Manushi Bhattarai, the vice chairman of the party, he relinquished as the chairman and proposed a special convention in March, 2026.

'A Special Convention Organizing Committee has been formed under the coordination of Vice Chairman Durga Sob," she said, "Additional information regarding this will be provided at a press meet tomorrow (Thursday)."

Chairman renounced as the party chair in view of the changed context so as to hold discussions with the other like-minded groups and political parties, a NSP leader said.

"To move ahead as per the will of the people and the necessity of the country, discussions should be initiated both inside and outside the party. Hence our party chair renounced as the chair," he said.
