The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has requested exercising special caution from October 4–6. The department has particularly urged that special attention be given to areas in Bagmati Province including Kathmandu Valley, Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Makawanpur, Chitwan; in Koshi Province including Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang; and in Madhesh Province including Bara, Parsa, Sarlahi, Rautahat and neighboring districts, as there is a high likelihood of sudden floods in the small rivers in these areas.
Therefore, the department has requested today to exercise special caution mainly from October 4–6.
According to the department, the low-pressure weather system developed over the Bay of Bengal is moving from Odisha, India, toward the landmass of central India. Due to this low-pressure system, monsoon winds are expected to enter Nepal, with monsoon activity likely to be active from October 3 to 6, particularly affecting Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.
According to the current analysis, during the period, the flow in the Narayani, Bagmati, Kamala, and Koshi rivers and their tributaries is expected to increase significantly, potentially reaching danger levels. Additionally, sudden flows may occur in small rivers and streams originating from the Mahabharat and Chure ranges in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Madhesh provinces. As the monsoon is active in the country, the department is regularly monitoring the weather and the potential adverse flood conditions.
Therefore, the Department requests all to adopt necessary precaution by receiving updated advance information to be disseminated through website, social networks, toll-free service (1155) among others. The Department has appealed to all the bodies related to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management to get involved in preparedness and necessary precautionary work by disseminating the forecast and early dissemination of the forecasts and early warnings to minimize the possible damages as well as the possibility of flood, inundation, landslide, soil erosion and other risks.
