After the District Police Range, Kathmandu stated they could not immediately arrest former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, a team led by Sudan Gurung, chairman of 'Hami Nepal' warned that they would take to the streets again. Following Gurung's warning, police temporarily recalled the small number of officials stationed at various police booths for security reasons.
Gurung, a self-proclaimed leader of the Gen-Z movement, and three other youths had filed a complaint against Oli and Lekhak at the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Office on Wednesday, demanding their immediate arrest and prosecution.
Gurung had launched a social media campaign on Monday demanding the immediate arrest of Oli and Lekhak, after which his team went to the police complex to file the complaint. When police refused to register the complaint, Gurung issued the "response from the streets" warning.
After the police stated they couldn't make immediate arrests, the four individuals departed the Police Range, warning that they would respond with street protests. Consequently, the police recalled the small number of officials from the street booths.
"The officers who had been deployed to the booths in small numbers after the Gen-Z movement have been recalled," said a police official. "Some booths had only 3-4 officials and lacked resources, which is why they were recalled." Police sources confirm that the entire Kathmandu police force has been placed on high alert.
