President of Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, has called a meeting of the party's office bearers.
Deuba called the meeting to finalize the agenda for the party's Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, which is scheduled for October 12. According to an office bearer, the meeting will be held on Thursday afternoon.
Deuba is currently recuperating after being assaulted by the protestors during the Gen Z uprising on September 9.
Against this backdrop, the NC Central Working Committee meeting is taking place amidst a growing call for change in leadership.
Currently, voices are being raised within NC that Deuba should either appoint an acting president or take a leave, or that the party should hold its regular General Convention by mid-December.
If a regular General Convention isn't possible, the issue of a Special General Convention is also being discussed. General Secretary duo Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, are raising the demand for a Special General Convention.
They are also consulting with another leader, Shekhar Koirala, and are currently collecting signatures from General Convention representatives across the country to pile pressure on the party President to call a Special General Convention.
