A case has been filed at the Kathmandu District Court against former Speaker and CPN (Maoist Center) leader, Krishna Bahadur Mahara Mahara on the charge of smuggling gold concealed in vapes (e-cigarettes). Mahara was produced at the court this afternoon.
The district attorney filed the case at the district court without taking the remand from the court.
A team of CIB had arrested him in Kathmandu on Sunday. Earlier, he had been arrested on the charge of customs fraud and organized crime on March 18, 2024.

Mahara has been allegedly involved in the gold smuggling case in which Chinese national Li Hansong brought two suitcases containing 730 e-cigarettes (vapes) from Dubai to Kathmandu on a flight of FlyDubai on December 25, 2022.
Earlier, Rahul Mahara, son of former Speaker Mahara, had been arrested in connection with 9-kg gold smuggling case concealed in vapes.
