Agreement to form new govt in Madhesh excluding NC-UML; Jitendra Sonal likely to be CM

An agreement has been reached to form a new government in Madhesh Province, excluding Nepali Congress and CPN (UML).

The agreement to form a government under the leadership of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party parliamentary party leader Jitendra Sonal has been reached among five parties excluding NC and UML.

Maoist Center MP Jawaharlal Kushwaha informed Nepalkhabar that such an agreement has been reached among LSP, JSP-N, Maoist Center, Unified ( Socialist Party) and Janamat Party.

In the provincial assembly, JSP-N has 19 seats, Janamat has 13, (Maoist Center) and LSP 9 each, and Unified Socialist has 7 seats. "We have secured a majority of 56 lawmakers. Now we are going to submit our claim to the province chief," Kushwaha said.

After Chief Minister Singh resigned from his post on Tuesday, provincial chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari has given time till 4 pm today for the parties to stake claim for the post of Chief Minister.

In Madhesh, UML has only 25 seats in the provincial assembly and NC has 22 seats. Nagarik Unmukti Party, RPP and Federal Socialist Party have 1 seat each.

The five parties have already signed the memorandum of understanding for the formation of a new government in Madhesh. Kushwaha said that they will present their claim for the Chief Minister's post to the provincial chief soon.

The MoU has been signed by JSP-N parliamentary party leader Saroj Kumar Yadav, Janamat Party leader Mahesh Yadav, Maoist Center's Yubaraj Bhattarai, LSP's Jayanul Raya and Unified Socialist Parliamentary Party leader Govinda Prasad Neupane.
