Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has instructed the Ministry of Finance not to implement the decision to tighten controls on the mobile sets brought from abroad immediately.

Prime Minister has instructed Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel not to implement the decision to tighten controls on the mobile sets brought by foreign returnees, informed Surya Kiran Sharma, the press coordinator of the prime minister.

The mobile sets which are not registered with the Nepal Telecommunications Authority are not operating from today.

Nepali migrant workers have been upping the ante with #NoRemittance stating that the government is charging up to 18 percent of tax even for bringing a single mobile set from abroad.

Issuing a notice on last Saturday, the NTA had directed to register the mobile sets brought by foreign returnees for their personal use in line with the Customs Act, 2064.

The NTA, in the notice, had instructed that those mobile sets not registered in the Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) or those not operational prior to August 17 would not operate from today (December 30).
