CP Gajurel has been appointed General Secretary of Communist Party of Nepal (Revolutionary) after Mohan Baidya resigned from his post.
Baidya stepped down due to health reasons, according to Gajurel, who confirmed that Baidya will remain in an advisory role. The party's Central Committee (CC) meeting has already approved Gajurel as the General Secretary.
"He resigned due to health, not because he is leaving the party," Gajurel said. "He will serve as an advisor and be part of the special committee under the General Secretary's leadership. I am now the full General Secretary, approved by the Central Committee meeting."
Born in 2003 BS, Baidya, has long suffered from ailments like asthma and pneumonia. He has been a continuous executive leader since UCPN (Maoist) broke away to form his own party in June, 2012.
He supported Prachanda during the decade-long Maoist insurgency which started in 1996 after the formation of CPN (Maoist) through the merger of various factions.
