Gurung community is celebrating Tamu Lhosar by welcoming New Year with much fanfare across the country today (Friday).

The festival is being observed by organizing various cultural programs at Tundikhel in the federal capital.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal also attended the program to grace the festival. Addressing a program organized by Gurung Community, Prachanad said the Tamu people have a glorious identity marked by their integrity, dedication, faith, hardship, bravery and sacrifices.

Clad in cultural attire, the Gurung people are participating in the program. ‘Lho’ means year and ‘Sar’ means change, which, when combined, means New Year.

The festival is also celebrated in Lamjung, Tanahun, Syangja, Manang, Kaski and Parbat where there is a stronghold of Gurung Community.
