One killed, two injured as bus falls 42m on BP Highway

One person died and two others sustained injuries in a car accident on the BP Highway at Chainpur in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-6, Sindhuli on Tuesday morning.

According to the Khurkot Area Police Office, the car (Ba 7 Cha 7554) driven by 65-year-old Om Bahadur Arjel of Biratnagar-17, Morang, was heading to Kathmandu from Biratnagar when it fell some 42 meters down the road around 11:15 am.

Arjel, who sustained serious injuries in the accident, was pronounced dead by doctors at 12:20 pm in the course of treatment. His wife, 49-year-old Sunita Arjel, and son, 31-year-old Nishant Arjel, were injured.

Police stated that Sunita sustained injuries to her right hand and various parts of her body and is in serious condition, while Nishant sustained an injury to his right hand and is in minor condition.

Both injured individuals were sent to Dhulikhel Hospital for further treatment after initial care.

Upon receiving the news of the accident, a joint police team was deployed under the command of Police Inspector Ramkaji Karki, chief of the Khurkot Area Police Office, and Assistant Police Inspector Dharma Raj Phuyal.

Police reported that they immediately rescued the injured and took them to the nearby Atmiya Community Hospital, Khalte.

Further investigation into the incident is underway, the police said.
