'National Security and the State: A Focus on Nepal', authored by former Brigadier General Keshar Bahadur Bhandari has been released in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Published by nepa~laya, the book deals with the security sensitivities of Nepal and the state of preparedness towards them. Bhandari, in the book, discusses the concept of National Security Policy and critically examines the security challenges of Nepal.
Speaking at the book launch, Chancellor of Gandaki University, Prof. Dr. Ganesh Gurung highlighted the merit of the book in relevance to the current problems plaguing government institutions. Gurung, also an academic supervisor to the author, said he was delighted to know that the book had finally taken a shape.
On the occasion, media person Bhusan Dahal interacted with the author on Nepal's contemporary security issues.
During the interaction, replying to Dahal's questions on sensitive position of Nepal in the current geopolitics, the author said, "There exists a distinct demarcation between security policies for state-nations and, nation-states. Only if we properly navigate both internal and international geopolitical challenges, we can hope to protect our own national presence, especially as a buffer between India-China."
A member and a vocal proponent of reforms within the National Security Council (NSC), first enshrined in the Constitution of 1990, Brigadier General (retd.) Keshar Bahadur Bhandari is a Defense and Security Analyst. He was also the Military Advisor at the UN mission in Afghanistan & Pakistan.
During the launch event, Lieutenant General (retd.) Balananda Sharma congratulated the author and publication nepa~laya for publishing the book. He said the book is an excellent resource material for readers across all sections of the society; particularly to politicians, government executives, media and scholars of security and international relations.
A dedicated chapter in book also dwells on the Nepal Army encompassing the Army's role, characteristics, organization and several other aspects to help the readers to be informed on the relevance of the army as an institution.
