A former Joint Secretary, Lekh Bahadur Karki, has been arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in illegal transfer of land registered in the name of the Nepal Trust at Durbar Marg.

According to the police, Karki maliciously violated legal procedures in the lease agreement between the Nepal Trust Office and Thamserku Trekking Pvt. Ltd., by entering into an agreement that would cause long-term loss and damage to the Trust.

SSP Shiva Kumar Shrestha stated that the agreement was found to include not only plot number 4606, which was mentioned in the public notice, but also an additional plot number, 4605. This was done without the decision of the Board of Directors, under a model that provided for a three-year construction period and a 30-year lease agreement.

The police have stated that an investigation is underway into the illegal acquisition of benefits without a legal basis in the lease agreement for the land owned by the Nepal Trust.
