Nepali Congress, along with leaders and cadres from various other political parties, who were dissatisfied with the appointment process of the Chief Minister, vandalized the Chief Minister's office in Janakpurdham today.
During the incident, Nepali Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Birendra Kumar Singh even threw away the national flag of Nepal that was in the Chief Minister's office.
According to Dhanusha SP Rugam Bahadur Kunwar, the vandalism caused minor damage to the offices of the Province Chief and the Chief Minister.
Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) MPs and party cadres vandalized the Chief Minister's office demanding the resignation of the Province Chief, Sumitra Subedi Bhandari.
"The lawmakers themselves carried out the vandalism," SP Kunwar told Nepalkhabar. "The damage is minor, mainly incurring damages to chairs, flower pots, and hoarding boards."
He also stated that the situation has now returned to normalcy.
The incident occurred after Province Chief Bhandari appointed CPN (UML)'s Saroj Kumar Yadav as the Chief Minister at a hotel in Bardibas, based on the basis of the largest party.
NC, JSP, Janamat, Maoist Center, and LSP, among other parties, have expressed their dissatisfaction with this appointment. They had been demanding that the Chief Minister be appointed based on a majority, in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution.
However, Bhandari, who was appointed as the Province Chief from the UML quota, ignored the demands of the opposition parties and appointed UML leader Yadav as the Chief Minister on the ground of being the largest party, leading to the current controversy.
