Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has warned that the dispute over the issue of the general convention within the party could lead to a party split.
Speaking to media persons at the party central office in Sanepa on Tuesday, Koirala warned that the party could be divided if the party central working committee (CWC) meeting fails to strike a deal on a regular or special general convention.
Stating that 55 percent of the delegates have already signed the petition demanding a special general convention, leader Koirala said that there is a possibility of a split in NC from the day the process of verifying the signatures begins, adding that the CWC meeting should draw a conclusion.

“There are 55 percent of friends who are demanding a special general convention," said Koirala, warning, "There is a possibility of a split from the day the signature verification begins. There is no room for doubt about the 55 percent signatures that have been obtained. We have sought a decision from the CWC meeting itself so that the party does not split."
Leader Koirala says that he is playing a moderate role to prevent the party from being split.
