The Nepal government and the US government's Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) have announced that the United States will provide an additional grant of US$ 50 million for the MCC Nepal Compact.
According to the US Embassy in Nepal, this addition increases the total amount available under the Compact to US$ 747 million, with 550 million dollars from the US and 197 million dollars from the Nepal government.
This additional funding will help achieve the Compact's core objectives, such as completing prioritized electricity transmission infrastructure, strengthening Nepal's energy system, and facilitating the growth of regional energy trade. By improving energy grid reliability and market access, the Compact is expected to support international "connectivity" and promote American excellence and best practices in energy infrastructure.
The Compact also expands opportunities for American technology and companies to enter the Nepali market.
This economic assistance reflects the enduring partnership between the US and Nepal.
For decades, our countries have worked together to advance economic growth, energy security, and mutual prosperity. The MCC Nepal Compact continues this history through high-impact, debt-free, and grant-based assistance focused on infrastructure.
