The Speaker of the Madhesh Province Assembly, Ramchandra Mandal, has been relieved of his post.
When the impeachment motion against him was floated in the assembly meeting on Wednesday, 76 lawmakers voted in favor of the motion in the 107-member province assembly. This is more than two-thirds majority in the assembly.
Seven political parties had on November 13 had registered an impeachment motion against him, accusing him of running the assembly unilaterally breaching the rules and regulations.
Mandal had been elected as the Speaker from CPN (UML).
It had been alleged that Speaker Mandal did not allow the opposition lawmakers to use the rostrum against the decisions of the Business Advisory Committee except those from the ruling parties.
As many as 64 lawmakers had singed the impeachment motion when it was registered.
Lawmakers from Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal, CPN (Unified Socialist), Nagarik Unmukti Party had signed in favor of the motion.
