A small fire broke out on a Scoot flight from Hong Kong to Singapore on Nov 22 after a passenger’s rechargeable power bank overheated. The budget airline said on Nov 23 that the incident occurred on flight TR939 and was swiftly xtinguished by cabin crew.

According to FlightRadar24, the plane departed Hong Kong at 5:48 pm. A passenger on Xiaohongshu reported a strong burning smell as the plane prepared to land, with video showing flight attendants gathered around an item on the cabin floor.

A 28-year-old passenger said crew members rushed for protective gloves, ice and a fire extinguisher before dragging a black laptop bag to the rear and placing it in the toilet.

She said passengers were told to stay seated and avoid taking photos, which heightened anxiety. The pilot informed them of the fire only after landing, and firefighters inspected the cabin before passengers disembarked.

The passenger later noticed a burn mark near a seat and wished the crew had communicated more clearly. Scoot said no one was injured and that emergency services were on standby.

All passengers and crew disembarked normally at 9:06pm, with the airline apologizing for the inconvenience and stressing that safety remains its top priority. (with inputs from The Straits Times)
