A total of 25 new political parties have been registered with the Election Commission of Nepal for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.
With the addition of these 25 new parties, the number of new parties registered with the ECN for this election has reached 119. Although 120 parties applied for registration, only 119 were registered, according to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
The Election Commission had initially allocated November 17 to November 26 for submitting applications for party registration. The deadline was later extended by four days, and the extended period also expired on Sunday.
The Commission has stated that after screening the applications, the final list of registered parties will be published on December 6.
According to the Commission, six applications were filed by 14 parties seeking to contest under a single election symbol through alliances of two or more parties. Similarly, 105 parties have applied to contest the elections independently. All 14 parties represented in the dissolved House of Representatives have submitted their applications for registration.
Including both new and previously registered parties, the total number of political parties registered with the Election Commission has reached 143. Even parties already registered with the Commission must register separately to participate in the House of Representatives elections. However, 24 previously registered parties have not applied for registration for the upcoming polls.
Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Harka Raj Rai (Sampang) has registered a party named “Shram Sanskriti Party”.
Likewise, businessman Birendra Bahadur Basnet and others have registered “Gatisheel Loktantrik Party”, while Resham Chaudhary has registered “Nagarik Unmukti Party, Nepal”.
Similarly, under the patronage of incumbent Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, the “Ujyaalo Nepal Party” has been registered, with Arun Kumar Upadhyaya serving as its chairperson.
The “Rastriya Pariwartan Party”, led by chairperson Rajesh Porte, has also been registered, and Riyaj Ahmad Shesh has registered the “Rastriya Janamat Party.”
Under the coordination of advocate Raman Kumar Karna, the “Janadesh Party, Nepal” has been registered, while Dalit activist Khagendra Sunar has applied to register “Hamro Party Nepal”, which is still undergoing the registration process, according to the Commission.
Former Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal has registered “Samunnat Nepal Party.”
Likewise, under the leadership of Ganesh Kumar Mandal, the “Sarbabhaum Nagarik Party”, and under Yogendra Mandal, the “Rastriya Urjasheel Party” have also been registered.
Similarly, the “Nagarik Sewa Party” has been registered with Shreya KC as the chairperson, while Numa Limbu has registered the “Samabeshi Samajwadi Party.”
Controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai has registered the “Nagarik Bachau Dal”, with Madhav Prasad Khatiwada serving as its chairperson.
Additionally, the “Sarbodaya Party” led by Deepak Kumar Sah, and the “Nepal Janasewa Party” led by Prakash Khadka, have also been registered.
